Does anyone use online chat rooms or wikis to post discussion questions for your students? I would like to find something that my students can post their opinions and comments to where other kids can read and also respond.

Create a classs wiki on pbworks. You can post questions and have students reply in real time. Students do not need email accounts to have access. You can assign them logins and passwords. You can upload assignments, videos, general information, etc. You can let the students create their own pages within the wiki also. You are the administrator, so you can set the security on the site and you can delete any inappropriate comments submitted by students. You will know who posted them as well.

What about setting up a Wiki they can all have access to as a starting point. They could get the feel of responding and reading one another's comments. You might need to contact other teachers in your district (building) or in the region to join the Wiki.
