I am interested in knowing about creative solutions to providing professional development for teachers and administrators without pulling teachers out of classrooms during the school day. Our district offers gifted and talented training in an online format, but most other sessions we offer are face-to-face either after school or summer. Any ideas would be appreciated. Linda

Hi Linda,
I just started a professional development blog and TV channel - both will focus on highly effective instruction & HOW to engage every single student in the class with deep thinking. The blog has just launched today at: http://wecanfixeducation.blogspot.com and it is currently free. The TV channel is still in pre-production. But if you visit my blog you can stay updated when that starts.

You may want to look into using something like the virtual world Second Life (www.secondlife.com). There are many educators there and teachers can take part in professional development. Kathy Schrock built an area where she offers professional development to teachers in her school district. http://nausetschools.org/lighthouselearning/ The benefit to using second life is that teachers can take part in professional development from home. This can be done in the evenings, during spring break, holidays or even during the summer. If you want to know more about SL let me know www.artisfun@yahoo.com My second life name is Tek Zeno and I run the Teacher Networking Center in SL.

When looking into second life, you should check out the Discovery Educator Network- an AMAZING places to virtually connect with teachers passionate about digital technology AND professional development. A good place to learn more is at their blog: http://blog.discoveryeducation.com/secondlife/ You should definately check it out. They have so many creative PD ideas to share- you won't be disappointed. I strongly encourage you to reach out to this team :)
